*    Nomads Lift English Cup

Nomads Mens premier team are the 2008 Winners of the Donnithorne Simms Mitsubishi English Cup with a win over Coastal Spirit well done

In what was a very tight game the Coastal Spirit mens side could not match their female counterparts in the Donnithorne Simms Mitsubishi English Cup which Nomads won 2 - 0.  Coastal Spirit wasted many scoring shoots in both halfs with shots either going directly to Nomads keeper, Jordan Buchanan or well wide of the goal. After a scoreless opening half Fifii had a shocking miss after 52 minutes and four minutes later Nomads took the lead when Jean-Claude de Joux showed how things should be done when finding the net with a great finish. Ten minutes later Paul Hughes was on hand to clear off the line from a Nomads corner with Nomads then seeing of several more raids from Coastal before the result was put beyond doubt wheh Luke Petrie set up de Joux for a simple tip in during stoppage time. The MVP award went to de Joux with Nomads winning the Cup for the second time in three years.

The Silver boot game  2008 Coaches Vs 17a

 Great day for a game of football (even if it was fathers day ) - a bit cold with gusts of wind . The teams started to assemble but it was not looking good for the coaches at about 5 mins to kick off - 11/12 17a players vs 9 coaches. Alan made a call for a player and we had a goalie (Tom B). 10 that should do. Lets get started.

 Lynette Barnett made use of the whistle for part of the first half then Jono Horne took over.

 The Blue team (17a + 4 from the 15th which gave then 11 + 1 sub) thought they might be able to give the coaches a good go. These young men played well with a half time score 0 - 0 with many chances taken but not put away by both teams . Team talks at half time over. Lets do this!

The coaches became 9 so it was really on. The Coaches (red team) had to dig in, the Blue team must have thought yes we got this in the bag but the coaches held on. The blue team upped the tempo to no avail and then in the dying seconds of the game a ball was passed down the left wing, then crossed to be put away in to the back of the net. Soon after the whistle went: 1 - 0 to the coaches.

 The game was played in a very friendly and good spirited way. These young men in the blue team are part of our club’s future.

 Many thanks to the 17a's (Packie, Sean, Hayden, Higgsy, Matt, Karl, Sam and Mike) & 15's (Ryan, Callum, Daniel and Hamish) for taking part in this fun annual event, to the coaches’ team , Alan and Tom B, Tony B, Tony C , Tony B, Bernard M, Andrew K, Ashley N, Dale A, Colin L, refs Lynette B and Jono H, and also to our sideline supporters: Kate, Pete, Irene, Kim, Shane and the dog out for sunday walk.TILL NEXT YEAR'' Nomads '''' Best in the west ''
