Team report: Although we mixed the wins up with the losses, all the players gave 100% and had an enjoyable season as a result. We often seemed to be a lot smaller than some of the opposition, but didn’t let that worry us as everyone got stuck in and tried their best for the team.
Several of our players were playing their first season of club soccer and they all showed a steady improvement as the season went on. It’s easy to spot the regular “back yard” players amongst the team and I would recommend this as a summer activity, a good way to improve the skill levels.
I would also like to thank the parents for their whole hearted, positive support for the team. It was great to hear positive encouragement from the sideline.

7th Grade Sharks had
an awesome season. Out of the 16 games played we won 11. We had a
great bunch of kids and fantastic support from the side line.
Thanks guys I really enjoyed coaching you and look forward to seeing you on the
field again next year.

Tigers
Won 7, Lost 6, Drew 2
This years Tigers team came
together with various soccer backgrounds, however, it didn't take
long with the help of plenty of pre season training sessions to build a good
team spirit. We had a large range of skills and capabilities and it
became apparent early on how each player would fit in. Michael Bainbridge and
Jack Rosevear provided some blistering runs out wide and learned well
the skill of providing the centered ball where the striking trio of Corey
Brewster, Matthew Harley and Moya Whiting consistently popped the goals. Working
tirelessly in the mid field Reid Clements and our rocks at the back
Jack Van Workum and Jordan Smith. Our Thursday afternoon training sessions where
always well attended and through this the team made significant improvements
during the year .Thanks to the support of parents and families on the sidelines,
we often responded to the encouragement. Well done the Tigers we had fun
eh! See you all again next year.

Panthers
The Panthers had another successful season playing 15 games where they won 13 and drew 2.
They scored 77 goals and
conceded only 7. The team consists of 9 boys who trained very well and took what
they had been practising during training and applied it well to their Saturday
games. All the boys have further developed different skills throughout the
season. The role of goalkeeper was shared by all and it was great to see that
each boy scored at least one goal throughout the season. The boys and the
coaches would like to say a big thank you to all their enthusiastic supporters.
Well done everyone!

8th Grade - Nomad Leopards Half Year Report 30 June 2003
Having started the season with 8 out of the 10 starters of last season, we pretty much picked up where we left off, with the two newcomers to the team fitting in well, and starting to show their talents early on. Significant improvement is being noticed in those players into their second season as a team. There is a real team spirit and camaraderie amongst the players.
At the half way mark, we’ve played nine, won eight, and lost one narrowly, with three of our wins being 9-0, 10-0 and 11-0.
We’re starting to play a wider game, and this is paying dividends, as is the players’ positional sense. We’ve come up against the odd tough side, taken the odd tumble, but rarely retaliate or question referees decisions, but just play hard and fair.
A great start to the season team, keep it up, well done.

8th Grade The Lions (End of season report)
had a very rewarding season.
They started off very quietly, but with hard work and determination they bounced
back with very positive results - the last six games showing results of 3 wins,
2 draws and one loss.
Each of the players can hold
their heads high and they all improved as the season progressed.
Alex, in his first season, proved to be a valuable team member giving an honest
effort each week. Thomas was our leading goal scorer and came into
his own as the rest of the team started feeding the ball to him up front.
Jayden had a strong season and his tackling and defence on many occasions halted
the oppositions attacks – he gave it his all each week no matter what position
he played. Zackery, in his first season, leant the skills quickly
and his passing from the back was a definite asset to the team.
Michael learnt a lot this season and his positional play and go-forward in the
second half of the season helped the teams improving results.
Mitchell came on strong as the season developed and was always close to the
action, often getting his boot in to do his bit. Joshua really
improved as the season progressed, enjoying being in the defence and using his
strong kicks to get the rest of the team moving forward.
Thank you Lions for a season
in which you gave it your best – no-one can ask for more than that.
It was very rewarding as a Coach to see the great improvement you achieved.
To the parents/sideline
supporters – thank you for your encouragement and positive attitude towards
the team. A special thank you to Paul for his assistance with
the practices.
See you all next year.
Mark Searle – Coach.
9th Grade
Magpies
The 9th grade Magpies made a
slow start to the season, taking a couple of big losses, but to their credit as
their confidence grew so did their ball skills and teamwork. This paid off as in
the second round we were a team to be reckoned with. The team has a lot of
talent and this showed in same of the superb goals that were scored. Our top
scorers were Jonathon Downes and Ryan Britt with seven goals each, however these
goals couldn’t happen without the commitment of each individual out there
giving their all every week. We make a special
Mention to Cameron Hales for
his rock solid defending at the back.
Thanks
to all the parents who supported the team every week especially Raewyn Bell for
her time-keeping and substitutions.
Well Done Team!!!

The boys continue to improve this season with some very good results. They have grown in confidence knowing that they put in the work they will do well. The players are finding there positions and combinations are working well and together they are closing down players and using the width of the field.
The boys showed that they can match any team as long as they are focus, play for the whole game and play as a team. All looks good for another good year next year .
Coach Kevin Calder .
Mid season report
We have started with 3 new players and this has improved the balance of this side. The boys are continuing to work well as a team and combinations are starting to show. We have scored plenty of goals, but in doing so we have also let a few in. It is good to see some of our goals have been team goals with plenty passing from the players. You can see the enjoyment of the players when they have been part of the goal that the team has scored.
We have lost 2 games against sides that have not been beaten yet. We are looking forward to the return matches of these two sides in the second round. well the coach is) Hopefully the boys are keen after their break and can put on some good performances.
Coach Kevin Calder
9th
Falcons.
The 9th Falcons consist of 7 players
from last years 8th Grade Leopards, and 3 players new to soccer. The new
players have all done a great job, and have added much to the team makeup.
All the players from last year have come back with better skills, and it has
been great to see them all improve. After a loss in the first game the
team started to knit together and each week have got better. In the 8
games played so far, the team has had 4 wins, 2 draws and 2 losses. The
team consists of Maryann Cant, Bradley Dent, Ella Dromgool, Alice Egan, Joseph
Greenwood, Sam Kay, Cameron Lake, Jayden Pike, Daniel Ryan, and Carlisel
Steel. They are a fun bunch of boys and girls to coach, and are well
behaved. We've enjoyed sharing some practice game time each week with
the 9th Grade Eagles, and have some great tussles. This benefits the
players, and adds to the fun.
Cheers,
Coach: Robert Cant
9th Grade Hawks
Hi everyone out there in soccer land . The mighty Hawks are having a ball this
season ,enjoying their football and having a good time . This year is the 3rd
year in a row for the majority of the team and all have improved, both in ball
skills and also their positional and general awareness of the technical
part of the game. We had a great start to the season ,swooping in and bagging
a few good wins . After a couple of minor setbacks with some blackbirds and
country chickens we have regained our confidence and are ready to take on the
best .
The team pecking order is as follows ; This year we have a new import from St
Albans ,..........The one , the only Timothy Beckham Jamison .Tim has
complimented our team well and has played welling the backs. Leading the Hawks
Golden Boot at the mo is Nathan Campbell ,scoring 7 so far , several with his
left foot . Liam Thompson has also played well in the forwards ,ducking and
diving all over the show and scoring a sizzling 3 equal with Nicholas Bell 's
hat trick, severely rattling the Kaiapoi rattlers ,that's for sure . AWESOME!!! Stephen
Collins is back goal keeping after a rogue kung fu kick at home put him on the
bench for a few weeks .Braedyn Campbell also playing to a high standard in
midfield this season. Pizza man Ryan has surprised us with excellent results are
right wing and shown good positional play. Alex Doe has been enjoying
defensive play this season and has made some good passes .Conner Hoffman has
been battling away at midfield but hasn't been shy about having a go at goal
,well done .Cameron Bishop who has generally played in defence has been
communicating well with his team mates and has nailed 2 goals proving himself
a valuable
forward as well . Great Team Spirit and excellent parent support always .

10th Grade
Bobcats
We
had a great season. The camaraderie built up from when we were the 9th grade
Magpies (the team remained unchanged) continued on, with excellent parental
support and a full turnout from all 10 players virtually every week. All parents
were positive; in fact, I did not hear one abusive or negative comment from any
supporter of any team, all season.
The players built on
their teamwork from 2002, and started to put together good moves, actively
passing and anticipating. The players trusted and supported one another;
there was a great sense of teamsmanship, not to mention competitiveness!
I
won’t mention individual names, because there was not one player who was not
stand-out. Several players constituted a well-organised defence, who were tough
to penetrate, and conceded just 27 goals all season. There were some mid-field
linkers, and an attacking quartet who broke out countless times, and, with
unselfish passing, scored most of our 69 goals for!
They also prided
themselves on their results, which were impressive. We only lost 3 games all
season - we drew 1, and won 12!
So, a very satisfying season
enjoyed by players, parents and coach alike!
Peter Fletcher
Players: Jordan Bailey, Christopher Casey, Andrew Ellis, Nathan Hepburn, Cameron
Mc Leod, Kieran Stoop, Matthew Thomas, Stefan van der Busse, Lewis Voisin
In all we played 15 games won 10 and lost 5. We scored 53 goals and 36 against. Our top scorers were Matthew Thomas on 16, Lewis Voisin on 12 and Chris Casey on 11. In all a successful season. It was great seeing the transition stage where the passes are being used to try and bet the player, instead of the player holding on to that ball for too long.
Moments of inspiration were had by all: Cameron with his great tackling and non stop play. Matthew for those wonderful touches in the many goals he scored. His commitment to that ball was a big part of the teams success. Ably supported by Lewis whose attacking and defensive play was excellent. Also of special note his outstanding saves in goal. Andrew had some lovely touches scoring 6 goals. His big boot in defence putting us back on attack often gave us a sigh of relief for supporters and coaches. Chris came with a big run of goals in the second half of the season showing some good skills. Nathan so keen to score a goal achieved this twice in the last two games his excitement reflecting what soccer is all about. Stefan defended well and had his moments too on attack, it was great to see him score that goal in our last game. Jordan played well with his tigerish approach throughout the season both on attack and in defence. Kieran showed good team skills, his talent in all areas was very evident throughout the season.
A big special thanks goes to Steve Thomas from Thomas Carr company for supporting us with nice jackets that the boys wore to each game throughout the season. Also to Richard who shared the coaching with me. It all added to make it a good team. To our supporters each week and Steve and Russell Thomas who also helped at various stages, a big thank you.
Coaches: Geoff Ellis and Richard Stoop
To date (28th June) we have played 9 games won 6 and lost 3. Goals for 30, against 23. It is pleasing to see the changes from last year with the players using the pass to beat the player, with some lovely goals having being scored. All players are having there good moments which is pleasing to see. As we play the second round we have two hard games coming as our big challenge for this second roundCoaches: Geoff Ellis / Richard Stoop
The 10th grade Bears (End of season report)
had a great season together. It has been
terrific to see the overall improvement over the last couple of years with a
significant number of the guys having played together for the 9th grade Crows
and previously the 8th grade Panthers.
Two great finds in the goal-keeping arena were
Levi Taiepa and Aaron Fugelstad. Both pulled off some amazing saves,
frustrating in some cases extremely good attacks from some very good teams and
often saving the game. At the same time it was difficult to play these
guys in goal, as they were both extremely valuable on the pitch, both playing
striker positions and scoring 12 goals between them. Levi was voted most
valuable player by his team mates, he has a great attitude and is a real team
player.
At the back end of the ground we had Daniel
Hullen, Greg Whitaker and Cody Rees. Daniel was always safe at the back
and his last 2 games he really came on and almost stole the most improved player
award. Greg is a great player solid in defence with fancy footwork in
attack. He would often get past 3 or 4 players before linking with one of
his team mates and his solo runs would often end with a goal. Cody played
hard all year between the back line and midfield and coming forward when the
team was attacking. He used his height to advantage and put a couple of
goals away during the season.
In the midfield our new player this year,
Daniel Wheeler, picked up the most improved player award as voted by his team.
He has a no holes barred approach running, tackling, supporting and getting back
to defend as a good midfielder should do. Well done Daniel. Joining
Daniel in mid-field are the captain Alfred Duval and another stalwart of the
team Jordan Duggan. Alfred has a great attitude towards the game and also
the team. He is always unselfish and will play in whatever position he is
asked or the team needs. He is a skilful player who improves each year,
although not scoring as many this year as normal he is always looking to support
others and provide opportunities for his team-mates. He came very close to
taking the most valuable player award, which would have been twice in a row.
Jordan deserves a special mention, in his last year with the team. Jordan has
played hard for the team over the last 3 years and was the highest scorer this
year with 14 goals. A really good boot on him he can punt a ball from one
end of the paddock to the other. The most memorable goal of the season was
a shot from the kick off which Jordan thumped into the back of the net. He
got votes from the team for both most improved player and most valuable.
Good luck Jordan with the Rugby next year.
Up front joining Levi and Aaron was Tod Harris
who tried hard all season, always looking to link with other players in passing
moves. He stuck close to the goal and was unfortunate not to score on a
number of occasions. However he scored his first goal this year and
followed it up with a second the week after. Made his Dad pretty happy,
(just happens to be the coach!)
Mid way through the season we picked up Sam
French who slotted straight into the mid-field line and worked really hard
combining well with Jordan. And for the last few games we were joined by
the little tear-away Phillip Zhang who never stopped running and chasing.
Well the coach had to disappear for the last 2
games (the mountains beckoned) and was uncertain of how the team would finish.
Mary stepped into the breach and the team walloped 11 goals into the net and
only conceded 3. Perhaps the coach should disappear more often! The
team brought it all together for those last games finishing the season on a real
high.
A huge thanks again to our assistant-coach
Mike Schimanski who unselfishly offered his time, wealth of soccer knowledge and
skills. Thanks to the irrepressible Mary for her awesome job as Manager.
Thanks to Benny, Mark, Lynley, Liz and Manar for helping out at practise, and to
all the parents who supported the team throughout the year from the sideline.
I hope all the team has enjoyed the season as much as I have enjoyed the
coaching. Have a great summer.

This was the first time that most of these lads had played together as a team. With players coming in from different 10th grade teams, other clubs and some first time players and a first time coach.
The season took us a few weeks to settle as far as positions and finding where the players strengths were.
The first half of the season was tuff going, as far as results went. But all credit to the lads they were always positive at practice and during the game. the second half of the season we dropped down a section to section 5 with a huge change in our results a few wins near the end of the season also put a spark in the lads boots.
A big thank you to all the parents /supports a great turnout each week by all.

Nomads

With the season now ended it is time to celebrate what can only be called a very successful season. This team deserves all the accolades they get for their fine team spirit, ball control and ability to put pressure on the opposition from any where on the pitch.
The team finished second to Burnside Red in the 14 game Round Robin Competition with a creditable 11 wins, 1 draw and 2 loss record. The 39 goals for and 11 goals against is a clear indicator of this teams strong balance both in defence and attack.
In the Knock Out Competition the Team beat Papanui - Redwood 4 –1 in the Quarter-Final, followed by Burwood 1-0 in the Semi-Final, to set up a bookies dream Final against Burnside. With most other coaches contending after their games that this Nomads team was quite capable of beating all other teams in Section 1 the boys began the Final believing in themselves and determined to play their best game of the season. The many spectators were not disappointed. Nomad’s took the game to Burnside with many well constructed forays into their red zone backed up by strong defense all over the pitch. As a result Nomad’s had much the better of possession and territory therefore deserving winners.
When a team plays so well as a unit it is very hard to pick out stand out players. However, Andrew Lowe regularly showed his class on the right wing with many brilliant crosses and corners. From these he assisted 50% of the total goals scored! Joshua Stoop was as solid as a rock in defence and as sweeper shut down attacks which managed to evade the rest of the staunch defenders. Nasser Al-Habsi displayed perfect reflexes in goal and organized the defence well. Great ball control, strong hassling and well directed passing was the hallmark of the rest of the defenders Karl Barnett, Scott Barber, Kyle Osborne and Mitchell Lassen (who often used his explosive speed to the teams advantage as a midfielder and striker). In the midfield Daan Toes, Craig Melligan, Jack Nash and Maarten Wansink were often first to the ball and absolutely ruthless in denying the opposition any opportunity to control the game thus turning their possession into an attacking opportunity for Nomad’s. Up front William Borren-Eggleton, Tomoki Takei and Calum Stent made up the remainder of the teams strike force. They showed amazing ball skills and always seemed to know where each other was. Their passing was deft and often left the opposition defenders bewildered.
This team was very fortunate to have strong support from every family as even on the coldest and wettest days of the season parents, siblings and grandparents would turn up to be entertained by the skilful play on display on the pitch. Jan Toes with his quiet yet knowledgeable words of encouragement and advice was able to bring the best out of all players in the team. He was well supported by trainer Rob Stent.
It was truly a privilege to have had the opportunity to part of this team of fine young players.

With Matt and Ben
being the only Nomads players selected for the Weston –Nomads Premier’s our team this year is made up of 10 players from last years

From the very
start of the season it was evident that we had a very good and well balanced
team. Everyone was keen to play well and also enjoy themselves.
So as you can probably guess we have had a reasonably successful season
so far. We are second on the table behind Burnside, the only team we have lost
to. We have played 9 games, won 6, lost 2 and drawn 1.

Game statistics so far are goals for 24, against 9, difference + 15 and total points 19.
Every week the team has been supported by a large number of parents, grand parents and siblings. The individual skills, hunger for the ball, and willingness to pass have provided us all with many memorable moments. Because the players all seem to connect and support each other so well any where on the pitch we often forget they are only 12.
Congratulations and thank you to every one who has had anything to do with this team so far for the excellent way you have promoted Nomads and the sport of soccer.

Team Report 12C
The boys began the season with little knowledge of positional play, and indifferent ball skills, but with the coaching assistance I received from Brandon Kay and Colin Wildbore they developed into a well-organised unit. We had some heavy losses, but also some great wins. Qualifying for the semi-finals in the knockout competition was the highlight of the season.
As always, finding a volunteer for goalie proved difficult. Alex Hutton & Matthew Leonard filled the breach admirably, with Matthew pulling off some very brave saves. Their long clearing kicks set up much of our attacking.
All the boys improved as the season progressed, but a lack of fitness proving our downfall. Steven van Eijk proved to be a useful wing, who doggedly stuck to his task, and deserved the Most Improved Player Award. Our Player of the Year, John Egan, just refused to give up. He played to a high standard every game.
Ashley Cooper top scored with 12 goals. Michael Wildbore scored 8. These guys can thank our mid-field of Sam Gardner, Nic Chapman, Kyle Burke and Stewart Fitzgerald, for the good quality ball they supplied.
Chris Haines played courageously either as striker or as defender. Our defence, manned by Ryan McCarthy, Shaun Mayhew, Shane Brooke and Shannon Butler had some great games, and were responsible for holding onto some of our narrow wins towards the end of the season.
I would like to thank the boys for sticking with it. We still had 3 or 4 reserves every game, right up to the end. I would like to see these guys work on their fitness before next season, which would greatly increase our chances of more wins.
Have a great summer.

It
has been an enjoyable year that has now ended positively. Despite some hard
games and inevitable losses, players, parents and coaches can look back on a
season of fun and improvement. All players have gained in confidence and skills
and on those increasingly numerous occasions when the team ‘clicked’ they
were very exciting to watch.
We have been lucky to have
had 3 excellent goalies - Rhys McCoy, Ryan Hepburn and William Crozier. Their
skill more than once saved us from certain defeat. Our defensive line-up of Erin
Morgan, Sam Glover, Matt Ridgeway, William Crozier (when he wasn’t in goal)
and sweeper Matt van den Ende similarly served us well. They developed an
attacking approach to defense and with a much-improved ability to clear the ball
upfield, they kept many teams at bay. In mid-field, Mike Taylor, Brynley Stent,
Haley Goodall, James Clark and Rhys McCoy delivered good ball up front. It was
pleasing to see the passing into space develop and get rewarded. On attack we
had Soks Chea, Gary McMullan, Michael Nuy and Ryan Hepburn. These players formed
exciting combinations with good ball skills and an effective communication.
Jonathon Scott has been our versatile player enthusiastically filling in gaps as
needed from attack to defense.
Many thanks to all our loyal group of positive and supportive parents and grandparents. They have always encouraged and shown good humour.
All players can be proud of their performances, they have played well, shown good sportsmanship, accepted the mistakes of team members and our defeats graciously and have celebrated our successes modestly.
Thanks for a memorable season.
Bill van den Ende.
JUNIOR YOUTH
A
This years Team, Bradley
Maxwell (GK), Stephanie Dodd/Sam Wilson/Rowena McAlpine/ Chris Hill (defenders),
Andrew Campbell/Andrew Dodds/Adam Goodson/Brendan Joe/Peter Yang/Roel Haastrechd
(mid fielders), Ross Smith/David Beynon/Manaia Burns (strikers) who as a
combination of last years Junior Youth B Team and under 14th Grade, took up the
big challenge of maintaining their status as a Division One competitor. Our 3
win, 3 draw and 8 loss record, giving us a final position of 7th in the table
does not fully reflect how close most of our games were. In only 2 games were we
decisively bettered, in all others the margin was 2 goals or less. There were
times where we played really good football and some well-taken goals were
scored. However, there were times where we lost concentration and at this
level this often caused us to conceded goals
A special thanks is
due to all Team members in appreciation for their efforts put in to both
training and playing, especially as the requirements of playing football at this
level was not something that most had had a lot of experience with.
On behalf of the
Team, thank you to all the “side line Army” for your great support every
Saturday. A special thanks to Graeme Campbell, who with the assistance of
others, especially during my absence in the middle of the season, managed the
Team,
Well Team, you all
did yourselves proud. Enjoy the summer times and trust that you will be seen

A spark from Mark
Well finally a chance to say hello
and welcome to 12th grade premier soccer.
Some Thank-You’s to start with…referee Stuart Cox, linesman Phil Hartley. And all the Mums and Dads for helping with the grounds on Saturday morning, your help is very much appreciated. Manager, John Kenny, who is keeping us informed and ticking along as we should. Thank you all.
This season has been very much
about learning to play as a team. You all have individual talent it now has to
be linked together to make a team.
To the boys I say the same thing
that I say every Saturday; to me player for player you are the best, team in the
league, if you play to your potential you will always do well.
If we can string three good thirds
together consistently instead of one or two we are going to be, deadly.
Keep up the good work boys, you
are making us very proud, and its great to see you all enjoying yourself and
having fun and doing really well.
Mention must also go to Jihun,
Cameron, Ben and Matt who were members of the Canterbury East team that won the
6th International Friendship Tournament held in Ashburton over the holidays.
Also to Vincent and Keegan who were called into Canterbury West after Day One as
replacements…their team finished third. Well done.
